Jose Shares his 11 Years as an Inspector
Veteran Inspector, Jose, has been with Precision almost eleven years. He is known as “Eagle Eye” by his peers in our Reel-to-Reel Department. He is called that because very few non-conformances will get by him. His attention to detail has earned him respect from the entire department and management staff.
PPC: Jose, you have been a quality inspector for the Reel-to-Reel Department for a long time. Tell us about your work in that area.
JS: I enjoy the variety of work. I am very busy and get involved with all the responsibilities of good quality inspection and I do some troubleshooting.
PPC: Many of us don’t know what an inspector does. Tell us about your typical day.
JS: The first thing I do when I come in is check the releases from the previous night. Then I check the q a alerts and determine the disposition of any problem. If I am not sure, I ask my supervisor, Anita, for her opinion. I do a lot of work on the computer and in general, do whatever I can to help get the customers their material on time.
PPC: Tell us about the troubleshooting.
Sometimes the operators have trouble with their line and ask for my help. I am very handy and can usually figure out what the problem is.
PPC: What is your biggest challenge?
JS: When Anita has a day off, I am her backup. I go to the production meetings and watch over our area. It’s a lot of responsibility but I like it.
PPC: Tell us about your home life.
JS: I have been married almost 17 years now. I have four children. Danelly—16 , Luis Alberto – 15, Michelle – 9, and Alexyss – 5. My kids are all doing very well in school; they are honor roll students. Danelly wants to become a pediatrician. I thank my wife for that. For six years, I worked two jobs and she handled the kids. I am very proud of all of them.
PPC: When did you come to the U.S.?
JS: I left Mexico when I was 17. I wanted to build a better life for myself and my parents. I remember looking out the plane window and saw all white on the ground. I thought it was really pretty and nice. Then I got off the plane and found out how cold snow is. I’ll never forget that moment.
PPC: Tell us about your hobbies.
JS: I love to fix things -- my car, electronic equipment, things around the house. I spend time on the computer. My favorite sport is soccer. I play soccer on the team that Precision sponsors. We’re going to be better this year.
PPC: Any closing comments?
JS: I want to thank Precision and the Belmonti family for their support. I also want to thank Vince and Anita for their support and Anita for being a good supervisor and giving me the opportunity to work for quality control. I like everybody here, operators, managers, everybody.
